Seizure and Confiscation of Over 17 Tons of Improperly Stored Frozen Meat

Kandal: On Wednesday, July 10, 2024, authorities seized more than 17 tons of frozen meat imported from neighboring countries due to improper storage and failure to meet technical specifications. The operation was led by the Deputy Prosecutor of the Kandal Provincial Court and involved professional officers from the General Department of Consumer Protection, Competition and Anti-Fraud (Kandal Branch), in cooperation with customs experts from the Office for the Investigation and Suppression of Smuggling in Region 2 of the Kandal Provincial Customs and Excise Department.

The inspection targeted five trucks carrying a variety of frozen meats, including 1,563 cases of chicken wing tips and wing bases, totaling 17,193 kilograms. Upon inspection, experts from the General Department of Consumer Protection, Competition and Anti-Fraud determined that the meat was defective and improperly stored, violating current technical specifications.

Following approval from the Deputy Prosecutor of the Kandal Provincial Prosecutor's Office, the seized frozen meat was destroyed in accordance with official procedures. The destruction was carried out by professional officers from the General Department of Consumer Protection, Competition and Anti-Fraud, in collaboration with the Office of Investigation and Suppression of Smuggling in Region 2.

The Kandal Provincial Customs and Excise Department will continue to follow customs and excise procedures regarding the car owners and importers involved in the case.
